Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA)
Based on Texas Success Initiative college readiness requirements, students either have to be placed into core courses one of two ways.
- Have an approved exemption (reason) for not taking Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2); or
- Take the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2)

How to Take TSI Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2)
On-Campus Testing
- Visit a campus or use the Virtual Lobby to contact Enrollment or Advising to discuss testing requirements and other course placement options.
- If testing is required, get an Assessment Authorization Form from Enrollment or Advising.
- You will receive a copy of your Assessment Authorization Form via email. Please be sure to update your email address if there has been a change.
- Complete the TSI mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity. Create an account for the Practice App and complete the PAA. Provide a copy of the completion verification form to testing center.
- Make a payment. The full TSIA2 test (Math and English Language Arts and Reading - ELAR) costs $29 or $20 for ELAR only and $10 for Math or Essay only. Placement Test Fees are non-refundable. Please confirm your test prior to payment.
- Contact testing center for testing hours and locations.
Important Announcement: Change to Remote Proctoring Service (Examity)
Effective September 15, 2024, Examity will transition to the Measure Learning Proctor U Platform. Please note the following details regarding this change:
- Cost Increase: The fee per session will increase from $25 to $28 plus tax.
- Student Process: The process for students will remain unchanged until September 14, 2024.
- Virtual Vouchers: All existing Examity virtual vouchers will expire automatically at 11:59pm on September 14, 2024.
- Testing Deadline: All students must complete their testing with Examity by the end of the day on September 14, 2024. Please ensure that you make the necessary arrangements to complete your testing accordingly.
- Platform Technology Requirements: Please confirm your computer meets the technology requirements to test on the Proctor U Platform.

Remote TSI Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) and Placement Testing by Proctor U

ProctorU is a secure, 24-hour online test proctoring service that allows you to take your Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) when it is most convenient for you.
Proctoring is conducted by Meazure Learning’s ProctorU platform. A proctor will guide you through the testing process while your session is recorded. Recordings are made available to Testing staff for integrity purposes.
ACCUPLACER requires test-takers testing remotely to complete a 360-degree room and desk scan.
Steps to set-up remote testing:
- Confirm the technology requirements for remote testing through Proctor U are met. ProctorU Technical Requirements
- Contact Enrollment or Advising to obtain Assessment Authorization Form (AAF). Connect in person or through Virtual Lobby.
- You will receive an email with Next Steps when the AA Form has been issued.
- Complete the TSI mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity. Create an account for the Practice App and complete the PAA. Provide a copy of the completion verification form to testing center.
- Pay the HCC test fee- Connect With The Cashier
- $29 Full TSIA2 test (Math and English Language Arts and Reading - ELAR)
- $20 for ELAR only and
- $10 for Math or Essay only.
- Placement Test Fees are non-refundable. Please confirm your test prior to payment.
- Contact a testing center to create the Proctor U Testing Voucher once the HCC Test Fee is made.
- Receive the testing voucher and a confirmation email from Accuplacer with the instructions you will need for testing.
- Click the Proctor U link in the email, which will bring you to the Proctor U registration page. Follow the instructions in the email. The per-session Proctor U Proctor Fee is $28.00 plus tax.
- Once you register and pay the Proctor U Proctor Fee you will receive a confirmation email with login credentials from Proctor U. You will then log into the Proctor U dashboard. From here, you will set up a profile and schedule your exam using the voucher code provided.
- Test results for tests proctored by Proctor U will not be immediately available in order to review the test session recording. If there are no irregularities with the test session, scores will be posted on the fourth business day after testing was completed.
- Testing sessions receiving a Reg Flag Notification will result in immediate INVALIDATION OF SCORES. A Red Flag Notification indicates the observation of prohibited behavior or use of prohibited items.
- If a Red Flag Notification is received, retesting must be done at a HCC Testing center or an approved local testing center. Remote testing requests will not be approved.

What to Expect + Scores + Retaking Information
How much time do I get to take the TSIA2?
The TSI Assessment 2.0 is untimed. The average time to complete all three sections is three to five hours.
What do I need to bring with me to the test?
Valid/current, non-expired government issued photo ID.
Assessment Authorization Form (AA Form) received from Enrollment or Advising.
Receipt of payment
Am I allowed to bring a calculator to the test?
You may NOT use your own calculator for the TSIA. A calculator is embedded in the test and will enable for the questions it is allowed to be used on.
What are the passing scores?
TSIA
- Writing College Readiness:
- A placement score of at least 340 and an essay score of at least 4; OR
- A placement score of less than 340 and an ABE diagnostic level of at least a 4 and an essay score of at least 5.
- Reading College Readiness: 351
- Math College Readiness: 350
TSIA2
- English Language Arts and Reading:
- A College Readiness Classification (CRC) score of at least 945 and an essay score of at least 5; or
- A CRC score below 945 and a Diagnostic level of 5 or 6 and an essay score of at least 5.
- Mathematics (for college-level coursework with mathematics-intensive designation by the offering institution):
- A College Readiness Classification (CRC) score of at least 950; or
- A CRC score below 950 and a Diagnostic level of 6.
Can I retake the TSIA2?
Yes, you may retake the TSI Assessment 2.0. However, before retesting, it is strongly recommended that you spend time preparing for the section or sections needed. The full TSIA2 test (Math and English Language Arts and Reading - ELAR) costs $29 or $20 for ELAR only and $10 for Math or Essay only. Prepayment is required and placement test fees are non-refundable. You will not be able to retest the same day.
How long does it take to get scores?
The TSI Assessment 2.0 is scored immediately upon completion. You will receive an unofficial copy of scores via email.
What do I do after I complete my test?
You will meet with your advisor to review your scores and determine your course selections.
