The Digital Communication programs prepare students to explore and create across today’s diverse digital media landscape. Business, industry, and nonprofits need visual problem-solvers, creatives who can design, capture, write, edit, and produce compelling content for social, web, mobile, immersive, and print platforms.

Program Information
General Requirements
The Digital Communication programs prepare students to create and share stories, experiences, and solutions across today’s constantly evolving media landscape. Business, nonprofits, and industry need creative thinkers who can design, capture, code, write, edit, and deliver content for digital, mobile, immersive, and social platforms.
Each program provides hands-on instruction using current tools, workflows, and creative technologies that drive regional and global industries.
- Photography students learn visual storytelling for editorial, commercial, and documentary work—building skills in traditional camera techniques as well as mobile, drone, and social-first production.
- Graphic Design students develop original concepts through a blend of studio foundations and digital design processes for branding, motion graphics, and user-centered experiences.
- Multimedia and Web students explore animation, video production, interactive media, and the design of cross-platform web and app content.
- Mobile App Development students learn to design and build applications for iOS and cross-platform devices, focusing on user experience, functionality, and emerging industry practices.
- XR Design & Development students create immersive experiences that blend virtual, augmented, and mixed reality—building the skills to design, prototype, and develop content for education, entertainment, and enterprise applications.
Across all programs, students build professional portfolios and learn to adapt to emerging technologies—preparing them for today’s fast-moving creative industries.

Accreditation
HCC is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Seven Art and Design Programs—Studio Art, Interior Design, Digital Communication, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Filmmaking, and Digital Gaming & Simulation for Artists—collectively represent the Art and Design Unit at HCC.

Hybrid Programs Restrictions
Hybrid programs allow students to take a mix of online and face-to-face courses. Hybrid programs offer 50% to 85% of their courses online and the remainder of the curriculum is taken in-person on one of HCC’s campuses. Please contact your advisor for more information about specific program requirements.
Language Option Restrictions
Some hybrid programs require students to participate in foreign language courses as part of the program’s required curriculum. Please contact your advisor for more information about specific program requirements and available language options. If you would like to take courses in a language that is not offered online, you would have to do so on campus.
