Houston’s Black historical sites topic of author lecture April 27

Dr. Lindsay Gary, the author of The New Red Book, will speak about 50 of Black Houston’s most-significant cultural sites and organizations 2 to 3 p.m., Thursday, April 27, in Room 100 of the Dr. W. W. Harmon Building, HCC Central Campus, 1300 Holman St., Houston. Dr. Gary’s lecture pays special tribute to an original, 1915 publication: The Red Book of Houston: A Compendium of Social, Professional, Religious, Education and Industrial Interests of Houston’s Colored Population. Dr. Gary’s work updates that book and features a foreword by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. The lecture is free and open to all. Middle and high school students explore the metaverse April 28

More than 100 Houston-area middle and high school students will don VR headsets and do a deep dive into the metaverse at HCC Central’s Metaverse Summit: An Interactive Exploration of the Future Now, which takes place 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, April 28, in the Dr. W. W. Harmon Building, 1300 Holman St., Houston. The summit is a collaboration between HCC Central’s XR Lab/Studio, Reality Collab and HP Inc. Asian American Pacific Islander month May 31 Resource Fair

HCC Central will celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) month through an annual Resource Fair focused on AAPI community resources, cultural events and traditions, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, at HCC Central’s Dr. W. W. Harmon Bldg., 1300 Holman St., Houston. The event is free and open to all. AAPI businesses, groups and resources are invited to participate. Free metaverse camp for students June 12 – 16 at HCC Central

Looking for something fun and educational for your older students to do this summer? Register them now for HCC Central’s free Metaverse Camp, June 12 -16, at HCC Central’s Dr. W. W. Harmon Building, 1300 Holman St., Houston. Space is limited to 50 students in grades 6 through 11. All students are admitted on a first come, first served basis.
