Kick off new year with HCC’s affordable, high-quality education

Jan 5, 2024

The spring semester is just around the corner and Houston Community College is leading the academic charge with its “Real World Education” campaign, an initiative that equips students with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to thrive in today’s society.

With classes beginning Jan. 16, offering both in-person and online options, HCC invites members of the community to enroll and embark on a journey that promises not just an education but a pathway to a successful and fulfilling future.

“I envision a college that effectively provides access to every student, a college that provides a real-world education for a talent-strong Houston,” said Interim Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D. “We continuously work toward that goal.”

The college offers an array of programs catering to a wide range of interests, from technology and health care to business and the arts. The diversity in academic offerings helps ensure that every student will find a path that aligns with their aspirations and talents.

According to current HCC students, the college’s vision is clear: to transform passions into thriving careers. College alumni say the day they walked through the college’s doors was the first step to a meaningful career and helping people.

“Looking back, going to HCC was the best decision I could have made,” said Charmaine Easley, a registered respiratory therapist, who graduated from HCC more than two decades ago.

Now, as a seasoned therapist in the Memorial Hermann Health System, she enjoys helping to train HCC students as they attend clinical rotations there. “It’s a great feeling. It gives me a chance to give back,” she said.

In addition to offering a wide variety of programs, HCC prides itself on being accessible and affordable. Its commitment to understanding the financial constraints of its students is reflected in its competitive tuition rates and numerous financial aid options.

HCC’s Online College option provides students with the opportunity to pursue their education remotely. Online College – with more than 60 programs – caters to a wide array of learners, including working professionals, parents and others who prefer to learn and study from home. Thousands of online courses in more than 80 academic and workforce subjects are offered, with certificates and degrees kickstarting graduates into well-paying careers.

“The impact of an HCC education extends far beyond the classroom walls,” Dr. Ford Fisher said. “We prepare students for the real world, focusing on skills and knowledge that directly influences their future job prospects. The huge difference this makes in lives and surrounding communities cannot be measured.”
