HCC Northeast Division of Science & Engineering Technologies in collaboration with the HCC Astra STEM Project invited Houston, Texas schools citywide to participate in its Annual HCC STEM Challenge. 

HCC Astra STEM Lecture and Workshop Series

 
 
 

The Houston Community College Astra STEM Project offers a year-round series of workshops and lectures facilitated by industry professionals currently employed in a STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) related field. They visit to conduct two-hour workshops at our partner middle schools and dual credit high school classrooms. Students look forward to participating in group activities lead by specialists and are guided to learn how to solve real world problems using science or technology. Thus far industry professionals have had the opportunity to involve hundreds of students through the Astra STEM project engaging in clinical laboratory science, robotics, fire science, etc.

HCC Astra STEM Math Experience Boot Camp

HCC Astra STEM Summer Research Academy

 
 
 

The Astra STEM Summer Research Academy offers middle and high school minority students, 6th – 12th grade an intensive 4 week program. It is an interactive program to enhance their general education with a specially designed curriculum for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) enlightenment. The academy which is held at the Houston Community College Northeast campus introduces youth to an environment of higher learning to create a sense of familiarity. The college campus experience also reduces intimidation when they later consider pursuing post-secondary education. Classes offered are: Fire Science, Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Meteorology, Network Technology, Robotics, Immunology Lab, Astrology, Green Technology, Energy Related Science, etc.

HCC/Rice University Undergraduate Research Program

 
 
 

The Undergraduate Research Program is an introductory six week participatory session of research in collaboration with Rice University open to highly motivated minority students who want to gain hands on experience in research. Qualified students are recent high school graduates who are currently matriculating at a college enrolled in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) field of study. The program provides a stipend of financial support, close student-faculty relationships, and opportunities for research, career shadowing and field experiences fundamental to student success in STEM disciplines.
