WHAT IS THE TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT LIBRARY?
- Business Training Videos & DVDs -- one of the largest collections in the nation
Business videos are among the most expensive to buy or rent, so sharing a collection is a cost-effective way for companies to manage ongoing staff training and stay up-to-date with the newest titles. New programs are purchased in DVD format, and there are over 2000 in VHS.
- Online catalogs -- for easy searching and selecting. HCC Library
- Reservation system -- reserve selections for your training day
Members reserve the titles and dates needed by e-mail and everything is pulled and ready for pick-up when they come to the library or send a courier service.
- Membership fee Join for 6 months or 12 months. The tax-deductible membership fee is the only charge; there are no rental fees.
- It’s NOT the corner video store. We have training programs and a reservation system. Members preview and select the videos, and then reserve them for their training date.
- We take your training seriously --Someone else may have that same video reserved for later – so no late returns are allowed. We do not charge fines, but the library can protect other members by stopping lending to any group that does not return items by the due date.
WHO MAY USE THE LIBRARY? Back to top
- Houston area businesses, non-profit organizations, and governmental agencies join by paying a membership fee (annual or 6-month) and completing an application listing the people authorized to check out videos. Application and credit card forms are available at the top and bottom of this page, or we can FAX or e-mail you one.
- For your protection, the library will only check out materials to people who are on your list of authorized borrowers.
- Members must be in the Houston area since videos are picked up and returned to the library rather than mailed.
- Sorry, individuals may not join.

HOW TO SELECT VIDEOS: Back to top
- Go online to the library webpage: HCC Library
- There are two different online catalogs for searching for Training & Development Library videos and DVD.
Under the main heading Books and Videos, click on Training & Development Library. This catalog lists only T&D materials.
Or, check the entire HCCS catalog, which includes books and all other formats for all of the HCC campuses around town. In the complete catalog, look for videos located at Central T&D Media. (Ask a reference librarian to talk you through a sample search.)
- Choose up to 5 videos at a time, for 4-day loan periods.
VISIT OUR LIBRARY HOMEPAGE library.hccs.edu/ for library book and video catalogs or click here for HCC Library.
HOW TO CHECK OUT VIDEOS and DVDs: Back to top
- Email your requests to library.central@hccs.edu Be sure to include all of the following:
Your name and company name
VTC or DVD numbers and titles
Date when you will be picking them up.
Any special needs, such as a different return date.
For your protection, the library will only check out materials to people who are on your list of authorized borrowers.
We will confirm by e-mail or phone. Please e-mail at least one day ahead of pick-up.
- Come in person to pick up videos, or send a delivery service, or send a friend. Anyone can pick up and return videos for you, but only the people on the list of authorized borrowers can reserve videos.
Make sure that everyone involved knows that they “absolutely, positively” must return videos on time.
It is a good idea to reserve videos a week or two in advance since we often have only one copy.
Videos may be reserved up to 2 months in advance.
LOAN PERIODS Back to top
Check out up to 5 videos at a time.
4-day loan periods, not counting weekends or holidays. For example, for a video picked up on Wednesday, we count Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday, when it is to be returned.
If you need a longer loan period, make the request when you make the reservation. Please don’t wait until the due date to ask for an extension. That video may already be reserved for someone else.
HOW AND WHERE TO RETURN MATERIALS: Back to top
Pick up and return videos at the Library Circulation Desk, 3rd floor, Learning Hub and Science Building (the new glass building) 1300 Holman, Houston, TX 77004.
Do not mail videos.
If you use a delivery service, the service must know the name of your organization.
Return all guides and booklets that are part of the video package.

Reserve or check out videos during these hours:
Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Friday 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
Pick up and return videos whenever the library is open:
Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 9:00 pm
Friday 7:30 am - 1:00 pm
WHAT ARE MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES? Back to top
- As a member, you accept responsibility for all materials borrowed, and will be expected to reimburse the college for replacement costs if any are lost or damaged.
- If you have overdue materials, your organization will not be allowed to borrow anything else.
- Your entire organization's borrowing privileges may be suspended for two late returns. Members agree to return videos on time to protect other members who may have reserved those videos for scheduled training.
- You tell us which people in your organization are authorized to borrow, and you designate a contact person our staff may contact about any problems.
- Your contact person must notify us in writing to authorize additional borrowers during the year. No one from your organization will be allowed to reserve or check out materials unless you have authorized them to do so. You also need to notify us if your contact person leaves.
- Professional organizations may only borrow videos for the use of the organization itself. They may not act as an intermediary and borrow videos for their members' use.
You may not:
Charge admission.
Duplicate or copy videos (Title 17, United States Code, Sections 501 & 506.)
Take videos out of the Houston area.
Mail videos.
Act as a middleman and loan videos to another organization.
Please be considerate of other borrowers and the library staff:
Plan carefully when you choose your checkout dates.
Avoid schedule changes on reserved videos.
If you must cancel, please do so early.
Don't monopolize one title -- the library may have to restrict the number of uses by one borrower of heavily used titles.
Don’t wait until the due date and ask for an extension. Instead, ask for a longer loan period when you reserve the videos.
PARKING -- Early morning and afternoons are the easiest times to find parking. Back to top
- The lot in front of the main building has a few visitor spaces. Enter the new Learning Hub building and come to the 3rd floor to find the library.
- The parking garage at Wynbern and LaBranch has visitor parking on floors 2-5. From the parking garage, cross the street to the Learning Hub. The library is on the 3rd floor.
