HCC Central cosmetology department readies students for Jones Futures Academy prom

Preparing for a high school prom can be a costly endeavor.

According to the website Promgirl.com, the average girl will spend between $175 and $2,100 getting everything just right for the big night. That’s an expensive proposition for many young women.

But HCC Central’s cosmetology department is going to help ease the financial burden for five lucky girls from Jones Futures Academy in southeast Houston. They will get their hair, makeup and nails done free of charge by HCC Central’s cosmetology department from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, May 1 in HCC Central’s J.B. Whiteley Building, 1301 W. Alabama St., in Midtown.

“We are delighted to be able to help with getting these young ladies ready for the prom,” says Maria Zambrano, a faculty member in HCC Central’s cosmetology department. “Each young lady will have at least two of our best students working on them for several hours.”

The Jones Futures Academy prom takes place Friday night at Brady’s Landing in southeast Houston.
